Donald Trump has leaked Republican senator Tom Cotton’s personal mobile number on Truth Social after criticising him over legislation to make daylight saving time permanent.
Trump accused Mr Cotton of single-handedly blocking the Sunshine Protection Act in the Senate. The measure was described by the president as the “We Don’t Want to Change Our Clocks Twice a Year Act”.
The proposed legislation would keep Daylight Saving Time in place throughout the year, removing the need to change clocks twice annually.
Arguing in favour of the bill, Mr Trump said avoiding the clock changes would benefit the nation and pointed to the advantages of longer afternoons for the PGA Tour, golfers, tennis players, hunters and farmers.
He also said the current system was costly because of the need to reach “high and dangerous steeples” at churches and municipal buildings.
Mr Trump ended his post by urging followers to “LOCK THE CLOCK!” before publishing Mr Cotton’s real-life mobile number and encouraging people to contact the senator directly.
