Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, was accused of committing sex crimes in the United States during a speech by Republican congressman Thomas Massie on the floor of the US House of Representatives in Washington DC.
Mr Massie named the former prince among a group of people he said should be investigated and prosecuted over links to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in a US prison in 2019.
Referring to the former royal, Mr Massie said he had “committed sex crimes in the United States, too”. The allegation has not been tested in court and no new criminal charge against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was announced in the speech.
The Kentucky representative is seeking support for a discharge petition to force a vote on a second Epstein Files Transparency Act. He said the legislation was intended to compel the release of records and increase accountability over material he claims is still being withheld by the US Government.
Mr Massie said he had begun collecting the 218 signatures needed to bring the proposed legislation before the House. He also claimed that more than three million files connected to the Epstein investigation remained unavailable.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has previously denied allegations of sexual wrongdoing. In a civil settlement with Virginia Giuffre in 2022, he expressed regret over his association with Epstein but did not admit liability.
The former royal was stripped of his titles and now uses the name Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
