A 36-year-old woman from Florida died after falling from a mountain overlook in Italy while trying to take a photograph.
Michelle Alejandra Rubio Leiva was hiking with her family in the Dolomite Mountains last weekend when she lost her balance at a scenic cliffside viewpoint along the Val di Fassa pass in Trentino, according to Italian reports.
The precise distance of the fall has not been established, although local reports estimated that she plunged as far as 980ft.
The family had been making their way towards a cable car which would have taken them to a restaurant higher up the mountain when the incident happened.
A rescue team reached Ms Rubio Leiva, but a doctor declared her dead at the scene. The rest of her family were airlifted from the mountain.
Ms Rubio Leiva graduated from Brigham Young University in 2012. She was a digital nomad and had lived in Rome last year.
