Golden State Valkyries players took their first WNBA championship trophy through San Francisco on Wednesday, November 4, as thousands of supporters gathered along the Embarcadero to celebrate the franchise’s remarkable title triumph.
The parade travelled from the Ferry Building towards Second and King streets, with players and staff riding on open-top buses as fans dressed in the team’s violet colours lined the route.
Golden State secured the championship in only its second season by defeating the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in a decisive Game Seven. Gabby Williams scored 30 points in the final and was named the series’ most valuable player.
The victory made the Valkyries the first expansion team in WNBA history to win a championship within its first two seasons. The team had also become the first expansion side to reach the play-offs in its debut campaign in 2025.
Celebrations began in the Bay Area days after the October 31 final, with the championship parade serving as a public celebration of the team’s rapid rise and its first major sporting title.
Fans arrived hours before the procession began, with face painting, costumes and team merchandise adding to the carnival atmosphere. The parade was due to run from midday until 2pm, while several central San Francisco roads were closed to accommodate the crowds.
