Alaska’s governor has requested an investigation into Mary Peltola’s Senate campaign following a report that people aligned with the campaign helped recruit a candidate who shares the name of the Republican incumbent.
The New York Times reported that those linked to Peltola’s campaign were involved in recruiting Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. The raw claims do not establish that the campaign itself formally recruited him.
The development has prompted scrutiny of the campaign’s alleged role in bringing the candidate into the race. James Brooks, a state reporter for the Alaska Beacon, discussed the matter with CBS News as part of its coverage of the midterm elections.
CBS News correspondent Weijia Jiang also reported on the wider midterm campaign activity.
