An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killing of US Coast Guard pilot Connor Overstreet in Skyway, Washington.
Detectives from the King County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit, supported by a SWAT team, detained the suspect at a home in Covington on Thursday, October 1.
He was booked into King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and was due to make his first appearance in King County District Court at 2.30pm on Friday.
Coast Guard pilot Connor Overstreet was shot in Skyway
Overstreet, 29, was shot near South 124th Street and South Langston Road in the early hours of August 23. Deputies responding to reports of gunfire found him suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders attempted to save him at the scene, but he died from his injuries. The King County Sheriff’s Office subsequently opened a homicide investigation.
Overstreet was an active-duty Coast Guard pilot assigned to Air Station Ventura in California and was visiting Washington state for work and training, according to earlier reports.
His family and Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound offered a combined reward of $30,000 for information leading to an arrest. Crime Stoppers contributed $1,000, while the family provided the remaining $29,000.
Investigators had appealed for surveillance and dashcam footage recorded in the area between 12.30am and 1.15am on the morning of the shooting, particularly footage showing people or vehicles.
The investigation remains active. Detectives are continuing to encourage members of the public to submit any relevant video or information to the King County Sheriff’s Office.
