Arsenal are reportedly tracking Atletico Madrid winger Alex Baena as Mikel Arteta considers ways to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the next transfer windows.
The 25-year-old Spain international has made a strong start to the season, registering five goals and four assists in 14 appearances. His form has increased interest in a player Atletico are understood to value at a minimum of £67 million.
Arsenal face competition for Alex Baena
Baena joined Atletico from Villarreal in 2025 and has since become an influential member of Diego Simeone’s squad. Across his career, he has contributed 92 goals and assists in 253 appearances.
His ability to play on the left wing, operate centrally or fill in as a striker would offer Arsenal greater flexibility in the final third. The Gunners are seeking additional attacking competition, particularly on the left, and Baena’s technical ability and movement have made him an appealing target.
However, Atletico are reluctant to sanction his departure during the January transfer window. Simeone considers Baena an important part of his squad, while the Spanish club are not expected to entertain ordinary offers midway through the season.
Arsenal could therefore face a substantial financial challenge if they pursue a deal, with Baena’s reported valuation set at €80 million (£67 million). A move in the summer may be more realistic, although competition for his signature is already building.
Bayern Munich are also seriously interested, while Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa have been monitoring the winger’s situation.
Arsenal will need to keep close watch on developments if they are to win the race for Baena, whose current form has strengthened his position among Europe’s most sought-after attacking players.
