NSW Police said officers began CPR before paramedics arrived. The injured man was taken to hospital but died shortly after arrival. He has not yet been formally identified. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to Gladesville Police Station, where…
German police have arrested two people in connection with an alleged arson attack at a defence firm, authorities said. Officers declined to identify the suspects or name the company involved as inquiries continue. There have been no reports of casualties arising from the incident. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, and the investigation is being conducted by regional police and local prosecutors, with further details remaining confidential at this stage.
Kemi Badenoch has warned that Britain must prepare for a possible conflict with Russia, arguing that defence spending should be increased to 3 per cent of gross domestic product and funded partly by cuts to welfare. Speaking to Conservative activists at London Scottish House in Westminster, the Tory leader said: “Conflict is coming, we must act now.” She described the threat as real rather than the plot of an action film, saying that Britain was already facing a “hybrid” war and that a more serious confrontation could follow. Mrs Badenoch said the Conservatives had worked out how to reach the…
The Trump administration has asked the US Supreme Court to allow it to revive a plan restricting mail voting before November’s midterm elections, after a federal judge temporarily blocked key parts of the scheme. In an emergency application filed on Thursday, Solicitor General D John Sauer urged the justices to lift the order preventing the US Postal Service from enforcing new requirements for federal ballot mail. Under the plan, the Postal Service could refuse to deliver ballots from states that did not provide voter information to a federal system. Ballot envelopes would also have to meet new design standards, including…
Federal Reserve governor Christopher Waller has cooled expectations of a US interest rate rise later this month, saying he would be inclined to leave borrowing costs unchanged if incoming inflation data show further progress towards the central bank’s 2% target. His comments pushed back against a growing market view that the Federal Reserve was preparing to deliver its first rate increase in three years at its meeting on September 15 and 16. Speaking at a Reuters-hosted event on Thursday, September 3, Waller said the decision would depend heavily on the August inflation figures, which are due to be published on…
Zendaya’s mother, Claire Stoermer, has condemned cruel comments about her appearance, describing the abuse as “sad and frustrating” in a message shared on Instagram. The 62-year-old former teacher addressed the remarks after coming across a post featuring photographs of herself and her daughter over the years. Stoermer said she understood why some people felt compelled to leave the platform for the sake of their mental health. “If I was to go and read all the comments on this post about myself, I could feel really bad,” she wrote. “There are some terrible, horrible comments, I did read some of them.”…
Enterprise AI revenue is proving less secure than expected, with companies reviewing suppliers frequently and fewer than half of pilot projects progressing into full production, new research suggests. A survey of 150 enterprise IT professionals by venture capital firm Madrona found that 74% expect to increase their AI budgets over the next 12 months. The remainder said they planned to keep spending at its current level. Despite that appetite for investment, respondents said fewer than half of their AI trials ultimately become fully operational systems. The figure represents an improvement on a widely cited MIT finding last year that 95%…

Nepal faces the reconstruction of about 20,000 homes as rescuers continue searching for workers believed to be trapped in hydropower tunnels after a devastating glacier-related flood near the border with China. Dharma Raj Upreti, chief of Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, said preliminary assessments showed that 7,500 houses had been completely destroyed, either swept away or buried beneath mud and debris. Many of the homes left standing are considered unsafe or uninhabitable. Officials are now identifying locations where communities can be rebuilt away from areas exposed to the same risks. “There is no point in rebuilding the…
