Sosa had asked the court in July to move the proceedings forward and end the marriage by default. He filed for divorce in January, a decision King said left her “completely blindsided”. King, who was previously married to producer Kyle Newman, said she and Sosa had been together the day before the filing…

Kate Ceberano has described turning down a role in Strictly Ballroom as the greatest missed opportunity of her career, as she returns to the stage for the Australian Made encore tour. The singer was approached by a young Baz Luhrmann in the early 1990s while she was immersed in flamenco, a dance form she had taken up as a child to explore her Filipina and Spanish heritage. She declined because she believed the film’s ballroom interpretation was not authentic flamenco. “To my absolute shame, I declined the offer to be part of Strictly Ballroom because I didn’t know what the…
Zach Bryan wore a “Free Palestine” shirt during his concert at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, weeks after rapper Macklemore was barred from performing at the venue following pro-Palestinian remarks. Bryan was performing the first of two shows at the stadium on Friday, with the second scheduled for Saturday night. Several members of his band also wore shirts carrying similar messages. The shirt worn by Bryan displayed the words “Free Palestine” alongside “An appeal to heaven” and a pine tree logo. The phrase “An appeal to heaven” dates back to the American Revolutionary War and appeared on Massachusetts’s official maritime flag…

Twelve of Scotland’s 14 health boards paid compensation to people injured through maternity and obstetric negligence. The cases included babies who developed cerebral palsy and mothers who died during childbirth. The figures have emerged as NHS Tayside faces the prospect of further claims from more than 200 patients who…
The US debt outlook is increasingly vulnerable to rising bond-market costs, Scope Ratings has warned after maintaining the country’s sovereign credit score at AA-. The Europe-based agency kept its outlook stable on Friday, but said persistent spending pressures and limited political willingness to pursue fiscal reform would push deficits higher. Its rating is three notches below the top grade and two levels below the AA+ ratings assigned by Moody’s, Fitch and S&P Global Ratings. Scope said the US retained significant strengths, including a powerful economy, the dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency, strong institutions such as the Federal Reserve,…

Tennessee’s prisons chief will step down this month following the failed execution of death-row inmate Christa Pike, after two doses of the lethal-injection drug pentobarbital failed to kill her. Governor Bill Lee announced on Saturday that Frank Strada, commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Correction, had offered his resignation. The move comes as an independent review examines what happened during the execution at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville on Wednesday, September 30. Mr Strada said leaving was “in the best interest of Tennesseans” while the investigation proceeds. He added that he believed the department had acted in accordance with…
