Ford is to invest $1 billion in a new paint shop at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, replacing the existing facility as part of a major modernisation programme. The US-Canada trade dispute has intensified after Donald Trump imposed new tariffs and threatened restrictions on Canadian imports, despite the two countries’ closely integrated economies and a trade agreement covering most goods. Trump has accused Canada of treating American exporters unfairly and said the United States had been “ripped off for 50 years by Canada”. The remarks came after trade talks between the two countries collapsed on August 21. Canada responded to US tariffs on about $20 billion (£14.9 billion) of its products with measures of its own. Trump then announced plans to ban imports including Canadian whey, most alcoholic…

Bruno Guimaraes gave Arsenal the lead against Sunderland with a superb long-range strike, just moments after David Raya had saved Enzo Le Fee’s penalty. The game had remained goalless at half-time despite both sides pressing forward, but the contest changed dramatically soon after the interval. Sunderland were awarded a spot-kick when Konsa brought down Ballard while defending a set piece. Le Fee took responsibility, only for Raya to dive to his left and get enough of a touch to divert the effort against the post and wide. Arsenal responded almost immediately. Guimaraes, introduced at half-time, received the ball from Rice…

A CBS News Sunday Morning investigation will examine the strain placed on the US military arsenal after more than six months of war with Iran, as the Pentagon confronts depleted stocks of long-range, precision-guided missiles. The report says thousands of high-tech weapons were fired during the early stages of the conflict, raising concerns that the United States may not have enough missiles to sustain a war against a major military power such as China. In response, the Pentagon has ordered the defence industry on to a wartime footing to rebuild its stockpiles. Restoring the arsenal is expected to cost billions…

Ukraine is preparing for fresh peace talks with Russia in October, despite Moscow ruling out a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky at the G20 summit later this year. Kyrylo Budanov, Mr Zelensky’s chief of staff, said Ukraine was “getting ready” for negotiations involving Russia and the United States, which he suggested could take place in October. His comments came after Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, rejected the possibility of a Putin-Zelensky meeting at the G20 gathering in Miami, Florida, from December 14 to 15. Speaking in New Delhi, Mr Peskov said a meeting could take place only in…
