7NEWS presenter Katrina Blowers is preparing to run the Bridge to Brisbane for a second time, just months after completing her first full marathon on the Gold Coast.
Blowers will take on the 10km course while wearing a bright pink shirt in support of The Pyjama Foundation, which supports children in foster care.
She ran the same distance last year alongside fellow 7NEWS presenter and weather presenter Tony Auden. Auden finished several minutes ahead, but the pair will not have a rematch this year because he is “apparently” carrying an injury.
Instead, the Bridge to Brisbane will offer Blowers the chance to focus on a shorter distance after tackling the 42.2km Gold Coast Marathon in July.
“That was 42.2kms of pure grind, so I’m actually pretty excited to give it my all for a much shorter run and do the 10kms again,” she said.
The event is known for its demanding opening section, with runners climbing the Gateway Bridge at the start of the course. Participants cross 65 metres above the Brisbane River, with views of container terminals, mangrove mudflats and industrial infrastructure.
Blowers said the event reflected Queensland’s straightforward spirit, with elite athletes taking part alongside runners dressed as superheroes and minions. Former Queensland premier Anna Bligh also ran the event while in office.
This year marks the 30th Bridge to Brisbane. The event began in 1997 as Bridge to Bay, attracting about 5,000 people, and has since grown into one of Queensland’s biggest community events.
Blowers said the course and crowds had changed over the years, but the event continued to bring people together for their city, their community and their friends.
