Bournemouth reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, securing a fifth successive win in all competitions under Marco Rose.
Amine Adli gave the Cherries an early lead before captain Lewis Cook doubled their advantage shortly after half-time. Alvaro Rodriguez completed the scoring in the 69th minute with his first goal in English domestic football.
Bournemouth made eight changes but continued the momentum built by victories over AC Milan and Manchester United. The hosts were involved in an entertaining, open contest, with the two sides producing 36 shots between them.
Adli struck after seven minutes, meeting Julio Soler’s cross to put Bournemouth ahead. Villa responded with opportunities of their own, but Leon Goretzka missed a free header in first-half stoppage time.
That miss proved costly six minutes into the second half. Cook’s delivery crept in at the near post after a mistake by Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot, extending the home side’s lead.
Rodriguez then put the result beyond doubt with a composed low finish, adding another landmark moment to an impressive Bournemouth performance.
Villa suffered their first defeat in eight games after making nine changes from the side that had beaten Manchester City on Saturday. Former Cardiff striker Jay Bothroyd described their display as “terrible” and criticised a “poor defensive display” during Soccer Special.
The result takes Bournemouth into the Carabao Cup last eight for the first time since the 2018/19 season.
