Aston Villa have stepped up their interest in Fenerbahce winger Oguz Aydin ahead of a possible January transfer, with Unai Emery’s side reportedly sending a delegation to watch the 25-year-old and holding talks with the Turkish club and the player’s representatives.
The reported approach suggests Villa’s interest in Aydin has moved beyond routine scouting as Emery considers adding greater depth and versatility to his attacking options during the winter window.
Aston Villa assess Oguz Aydin’s attacking qualities
Aydin has made 16 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring twice and providing three assists. However, he has yet to establish himself as a regular starter for Fenerbahce.
He is understood to have attracted particular attention during Fenerbahce’s Champions League meeting with Villa earlier this month. Although Aydin did not score or assist in the match, his ability to operate in wide areas, create chances and take on defenders has encouraged the Premier League club to explore a potential move.
Villa have already made initial enquiries about the terms of a deal, although no formal offer has been made. Aydin’s versatility could give Emery additional options in the final third if the club decide to pursue the transfer.
Fenerbahce seek to protect Aydin’s position
Any agreement is likely to be complicated by Aydin’s contract, which runs until 2028. Fenerbahce are keen to protect their investment and have reportedly begun discussions over a possible extension as interest in the winger grows.
Reports from Turkey claim the club’s president has instructed officials to start the renewal process, with Aydin’s agent invited to discuss improved terms.
Villa have not ruled out making a bid in January, but the potential offer and Fenerbahce’s asking price remain unclear. The outcome of the contract discussions could therefore prove important in determining whether Aydin’s move to the Premier League becomes a realistic possibility.
