The death toll in a Spain high-speed train collision has risen to 68, with a further 80 people injured, including five who are in a critical condition.
Emiliano GarcÃa-Page, president of the Castilla-La Mancha regional government, confirmed the latest figures as emergency crews continued working at the crash site in the province of Toledo, south of Madrid.
Two high-speed trains collided in central Spain on Wednesday morning. One was operated by the state-owned RENFE company, while the other belonged to the private operator IRYO.
The RENFE train ran into the rear of the IRYO service after it had stopped in a rural area between two villages. The impact forced two carriages off the track.
The crash comes after another collision between high-speed trains in southern Spain in January, involving services from the same two companies.
