Southbound I-405 in Bothell will shut completely this Halloween weekend as crews remove part of a pedestrian bridge at Canyon Park Park and Ride.
The closure will run from 10pm on Friday, October 30, until 4am on Monday, November 2, between State Route 527 and State Route 522, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
Several nearby ramps will also be closed, including the southbound entrance from SR 527, the ramps serving Northeast 195th Street and the southbound exit to SR 522. Signed diversion routes will be in place, although WSDOT has warned that delays are likely because the alternative roads cannot handle normal traffic volumes.
Second I-405 closure planned in Bothell
The bridge work forms part of WSDOT’s I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project, which is intended to widen the motorway through Bothell and extend the express toll-lane system.
A further full closure is planned for the following weekend, from 11pm on Friday, November 6, until 5am on Monday, November 9. This time, all northbound lanes between SR 522 and SR 527 will close while crews remove another section of the pedestrian bridge and its lift tower.
The Canyon Park Park and Ride will also close during the northbound works.
Canyon Park pedestrian bridge to remain closed until 2028
The pedestrian bridge itself will close permanently at 12.01am on Friday, October 30. WSDOT says it will remain unavailable until a replacement bridge opens in 2028.
People who need to cross I-405 during the construction period can use Community Transit routes 106 or 120, or follow signs for a temporary construction shuttle. Some southbound services will board from a temporary Bay B inside the park and ride.
The wider improvement project covers about four and a half miles of I-405 between the SR 522 interchange and SR 527. It includes new express toll lanes, direct-access ramps and infrastructure to support Sound Transit’s planned I-405 Bus Rapid Transit service, with construction scheduled to finish in 2028.
WSDOT is advising drivers to allow extra time, consider public transport or car-sharing, and check real-time travel information before setting out.
