A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a Baytown shooting in which another man was wounded in the rear car park of a bar.
Christopher Chavez, of Baytown, faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the incident on West Texas Avenue in the early hours of Monday, October 26.
Baytown shooting suspect arrested
Police were called at about 2.20am after reports of gunfire near South Commerce Street. Investigators said witnesses saw Chavez arrive at the bar and approach a female bartender.
He was later seen near the rear entrance with another man, who was reportedly trying to persuade him to leave. Police allege that Chavez then produced a pistol and fired at the man.
The wounded man was airlifted to hospital and was later described as being in a stable condition. His identity has not been released, and no other injuries were reported.
Baytown police said investigators used licence plate reader technology to establish Chavez’s whereabouts. Officers found him and his vehicle at a bait camp on Simms Road, where he was arrested without incident.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted the aggravated assault charge against Chavez. The circumstances that led to the confrontation have not been disclosed.
Police said they would continue to hold people accountable for violent offences and work to protect the community. Chavez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
