Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko will miss the rest of 2026 after an injury update confirmed he is expected to remain sidelined until at least January 2027.
The 23-year-old Slovenia international is recovering from a shin injury, with United determined not to rush his return before he is fully fit. He is expected to undergo an extended rehabilitation programme with specialist support.
Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano said the forward would be unavailable until at least January and that the club wanted him to return in 2027 only once he had completely recovered.
Benjamin Sesko injury setback
The latest setback adds to a difficult 2026/27 campaign for Sesko. He had previously experienced a lower-leg problem after a heavy collision against Liverpool towards the end of last season.
Although he returned to feature in the opening fixtures of the current campaign, the injury flared up again during Manchester United’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton on 16 September.
Further assessments, along with his withdrawal from international duty, established that the bone stress in his shin required a prolonged period of rest and targeted rehabilitation.
Sesko’s absence leaves Michael Carrick with fewer attacking options during the demanding winter schedule. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are expected to carry much of United’s goalscoring responsibility as the club attempts to move out of the bottom half of the Premier League table.
