Kim Kardashian allegedly had a gun held to her head during a 2018 trip to Uganda with her then-husband Kanye West, according to a new biography of the reality star.
Jonathan Van Meter makes the claim in Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future, which was released on Tuesday. The book describes the couple’s visit as a moment when their relationship had reached “a point of no return”.
Van Meter quotes Farnaz Farjam, an executive producer of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, as saying she first realised how serious tensions between the couple had become during the trip.
“They were shooting at a remote location in Uganda when Kanye became paranoid and agitated,” Farjam said, according to the book.
She alleged that West persuaded local police that people were trying to drug him, prompting officers to search the rooms occupied by the group.
“He basically got the local police to believe that there were people trying to drug him, and so they came and they had guns out. He had them raid everybody’s rooms,” Farjam told Van Meter.
The biographer writes that, at one point, “one of the policemen had a gun to Kim’s head”. Farjam described the situation as “intense” and said she arranged a private jet to remove her crew from the country because she feared for their safety.
Farjam also told Van Meter that she forgave West for what she called the “Africa fiasco” because he “lives with bipolar disorder, and he was in a manic place”.
Kardashian and West travelled to Uganda in October 2018, where they handed out Yeezy trainers to Ugandan children and met President Yoweri Museveni.
The pair began dating in 2012 and married in Florence, Italy, in May 2014. Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021, and their divorce and joint custody settlement was finalised in November 2022. They share four children.
The allegation comes after Kardashian’s well-documented armed robbery in Paris in 2016, when robbers forced their way into her hotel suite and stole jewellery worth about $10 million, including a $4 million engagement ring from West.
Last month, a Paris court awarded Kardashian one euro in compensation in connection with the robbery. Representatives for Kardashian and West were approached for comment.
