R&B singer Raz-B and his wife Mona Li have announced the death of their three-month-old son, Astro Monte Thornton.
The infant died earlier this week in what sources close to the family described as an unexpected and sudden death. The cause has not been disclosed.
A representative for the family said: “The family asks for privacy as they navigate this difficult time. They truly appreciate your love and support.”
Astro was born in May, after Raz-B shared a photograph from hospital and told followers they were preparing to welcome “another baby boy to the Thornton family”.
The couple also have a 23-month-old son, Versai Carter Thornton, while Mona Li has a daughter from a previous relationship.
Raz-B and Mona Li made their first public appearance as a couple at producer Lemuel Plummer’s birthday celebration in Los Angeles in April 2023. In September 2024, the singer announced that they had married and were expecting their first child together.
The news comes as Raz-B, whose real name is De’Mario Thornton, has been active with B2K, the group that made him a star in the early 2000s.
Earlier this year, he reunited with Omarion, J-Boog and Lil’ Fizz for the Boys 4 Life tour, staged to mark the group’s 25th anniversary. The tour was co-headlined by Bow Wow.
B2K also released new music in July with the single Mileage, their first release ahead of a forthcoming album. The track later became the group’s first entry on Billboard’s Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart in more than two decades.
