Britney Spears has wished her son Jayden James Federline a happy 20th birthday, expressing hope that she can be “the best mommy in the world” to him and his brother.
The singer, 44, shared a present-day photograph of Jayden speaking on stage alongside a childhood image in a tribute posted on Instagram.
“Happy birthday to my handsome young boy,” Spears wrote. “Oh dear lord we have this beautiful thing called life in front of us, it’s such a beautiful delicate thing.”
She added: “I hope I can be the best mommy in the world every day of ur life!!!!”
Britney Spears has worked to rebuild relationship with sons
Spears shares Jayden and Sean Preston with her former husband Kevin Federline, 48. The couple married in 2004, but divorced two years later.
Jayden’s birthday on September 11 comes shortly before Sean Preston turns 21 on September 14.
Spears has been working to reconnect with her sons since the end of her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021, and has shared photographs and videos with them on social media in recent months.
Both sons moved to Hawaii with Federline in 2023. Federline later wrote in his memoir that Jayden had returned to Los Angeles to pursue his music ambitions, describing him as “brimming with creative energy”.
He also wrote: “Watching both of them grow into themselves has filled me with pride. We’ve done everything we could to prepare them for life, and I know they’re ready.”
Earlier this year, Sean Preston reportedly began using Spears as his surname on Instagram, adopting the name “Sean P Spears” after previously using Sean Preston.
Spears’s relationship with her sons came under renewed attention after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in March. She later pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months’ probation.
Jayden and Sean Preston reportedly intervened after the incident, prompting Spears to enter rehab. She later described the DUI episode as a “blessing in disguise” while reflecting on her “spiritual journey”.
