Actress Caroline Quentin has said she has turned her back on home ownership after downsizing from a six-bedroom farmhouse in Devon.
The 66-year-old, best known for her role as Dorothy in Men Behaving Badly, now lives in rented accommodation with her husband, Sam Farmer, after deciding that a smaller home better suited their life.
Quentin previously described the move as part of a gradual downsizing process following the departure of the couple’s two children, who have established homes of their own.
In an interview published by The Telegraph in November 2024, she said she and Farmer had moved into a small stone house with a large garden while considering their next step.
The couple had spent years living in the Devon countryside, where Quentin developed a reputation for her love of gardening and rural life. Their previous property was a substantial six-bedroom farmhouse.
Rather than buy again, Quentin has now indicated that renting may be a more practical long-term choice, leaving behind the responsibility and upkeep associated with owning a large country home.
Her decision marks a change from the family’s earlier rural lifestyle, which included maintaining land and gardens in the Devon countryside.
