Everton are exploring a January deal for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, with discussions between the clubs reportedly having taken place at an early stage.
David Moyes is seeking to strengthen his attacking options after Everton failed to sign another recognised striker during the summer transfer window. Rashford’s ability to operate on the left or through the middle could give the manager greater flexibility.
Everton consider Marcus Rashford deal
Rashford, 28, enjoyed a productive loan spell at Barcelona last season, scoring 14 goals and providing 15 assists. However, he has struggled to reproduce that form since returning to the Manchester United first team under Michael Carrick.
The England international has started six matches across competitions this season without registering a goal or assist, adding to uncertainty over his longer-term future at Old Trafford.
Everton believe Rashford could benefit from a fresh opportunity. His pace, versatility and experience would provide Moyes with another option in the forward line, while the manager’s record of improving attacking players is viewed as a potential advantage.
Any agreement is expected to be complicated by Manchester United’s reported valuation of about €30 million and Rashford’s substantial wages. Everton are still considering whether a permanent transfer or a loan deal with an option to buy would be the preferred arrangement.
Rashford’s willingness to join another English club could also prove significant, having been reluctant to consider such a move during the summer. No agreement has been reached, but talks may continue in the weeks before the January transfer window.
