Chicago is set for an unusually warm Wednesday, with sunshine and temperatures climbing into the mid-70s Fahrenheit (around 23C) before cooler, unsettled conditions develop ahead of Halloween.
The National Weather Service forecast a high of about 73F (23C) on Wednesday, with south-westerly winds strengthening through the afternoon. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain mild, falling only to the lower 50sF.
The warmth follows a cloudy Tuesday in Chicagoland, when temperatures reached the upper 60s to low 70sF. That was well above Chicago’s typical October 27 high of 58F (14C).
Cloud cover is expected to increase on Thursday, bringing a chance of showers. Temperatures will remain relatively mild but may be lower than previously forecast as winds from Lake Michigan help hold readings down later in the week.
Friday is likely to be mostly cloudy, with a stray shower possible and highs in the lower 60sF. The National Weather Service puts the chance of rain at about 20 per cent during the afternoon.
Scattered showers could continue into the Halloween weekend, although forecasters say it should not be a washout. Saturday is expected to reach the low to mid-60sF, with a chance of rain before the afternoon and the possibility of a passing shower during trick-or-treating.
Further showers are possible on Sunday, while the wider forecast indicates periodic rain chances from late Wednesday night through the weekend, with isolated thunderstorms also possible at times.
