West Ham are reportedly planning a January clear-out as Nuno Espírito Santo considers reshaping his squad and improving the club’s financial position. Soungoutou Magassa, Edson Alvarez and Maxwel Cornet are among those facing uncertain futures at the London Stadium.
The three players have struggled to establish themselves as regular first-team figures, and their departures could help create room for further recruitment during the winter transfer window.
West Ham January clear-out could begin with midfielders
Magassa has found opportunities limited since joining West Ham from Monaco. The 22-year-old attracted interest from several European clubs during the summer, although no move was completed.
His position could be reassessed in January if he remains short of regular football. West Ham may also listen to offers if they conclude that selling the midfielder would help finance additions to Espírito Santo’s squad.
Alvarez’s future is similarly unclear. The Mexico international spent last season on loan at Fenerbahce, but West Ham were unable to agree a permanent departure before the summer window closed.
The club are understood to have rejected four offers because they did not meet their valuation. However, Alvarez’s wages and his uncertain role under Espírito Santo could lead West Ham to reconsider their stance when the transfer window reopens.
Maxwel Cornet also linked with West Ham exit
Cornet is another player who has failed to secure a consistent place in the side. The winger has not convinced the coaching staff that he merits a regular role, with West Ham reportedly exploring options for moving him on.
A permanent transfer would reduce the club’s wage commitments, although their financial position remains a consideration. Much of the income generated through summer sales has already been allocated to outstanding transfer payments and other obligations.
West Ham could therefore prioritise player departures before pursuing new additions in January. With promotion ambitions central to their plans, Espírito Santo must balance financial discipline with the need to retain a competitive squad.
