Daniel Stewart has shared a photograph from a stage production with his father, Patrick Stewart, following the actor’s death at the age of 86.
The image, posted on X on Thursday, shows Daniel giving his father a piggyback ride during their 2001 production of Johnson Over Jordan at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. Daniel did not add a caption, allowing the photograph to stand alone.
The post comes after Patrick Stewart had spoken publicly about the pain of being estranged from his children.
In an interview with the Irish Independent in 2023, the X-Men actor said he felt “significant grief” over the distance between them. He described his relationship with Daniel and his daughter Sophie as “practically non-existent”.
Patrick Stewart died on Wednesday after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia.
