A Ballajura family was left shaken after a car parked outside their home was set alight in the early hours of Friday morning, prompting a police investigation.
CCTV shows a white sedan driving around the end of a normally quiet cul-de-sac at about 2.20am before leaving. Almost 20 minutes later, it returned and two hooded people got out.
The pair moved towards the Volkswagen parked in front of a house, appearing to pour liquid over it before setting it alight. The car burst into flames just metres from the front door, with four people inside the property.
The hooded figures ran back to the sedan, which then sped away. Emergency services arrived about 10 minutes later, but the vehicle was left a burnt-out wreck after burning for at least 11 minutes.
The homeowner said she did not know why the property had been targeted and did not recognise those involved.
A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said she was woken by a loud noise.
“I heard a very big and massive noise first and then I heard the car escaping and driving too fast and I was really scared,” she said.
She said the incident was out of character for the street, describing the family as quiet and respectful.
“This street is a very quiet street, everyone know each other and it’s a very nice area,” she said.
Midland Police are investigating the identities of the two people involved and the motive behind the attack.
