A family in Ballajura has been left shaken after two hooded people allegedly set fire to a Volkswagen parked outside their home in the early hours of Friday morning.
The attack happened in a normally quiet cul-de-sac, just metres from the front door of the house, where four people were inside. The vehicle was later reduced to a burnt-out wreck.
CCTV shows a white sedan driving around the end of the street at about 2.20am before leaving. Almost 20 minutes later, it returned and two hooded figures got out.
The pair moved towards the parked car, appearing to pour liquid over it before setting it alight. Flames quickly engulfed the vehicle as the two people ran back to the sedan and drove away.
Emergency services arrived about ten minutes later, with the car burning for at least 11 minutes. Police are investigating the identities of those involved and the reason for the attack.
The homeowner said she did not know why her house had been targeted and did not recognise the people captured on camera.
A neighbour said she woke to what sounded like a large explosion before hearing the vehicle speed away.
“I heard a very big and massive noise first and then I heard the car escaping and driving too fast and I was really scared,” she said.
She described the incident as out of character for the area, saying the residents knew one another and that the family was quiet and respectful.
Midland Police are continuing their investigation into the overnight car firebombing.
