Raphinha strengthened his claim to be among Europe’s leading forwards with a second hat-trick in the space of days, while Harry Kane reached 100 Bundesliga goals in record time during another weekend of striking individual performances across the continent.
The Barcelona forward scored with his right foot, head and left foot in a 3-1 victory at Sevilla, underlining his growing influence in the central attacking role. At 29, Raphinha appears to have found a position in which his range of finishing can be fully exploited.
Barcelona are now five points clear of second place and six ahead of Real Madrid, who lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid in the derby. Jose Mourinho’s side were beaten despite the manager’s outspoken criticism of the referee, Miguel Angel Ortiz Arias.
Mourinho claimed Atletico should have had two players sent off and brought printouts to his press conference. “The ones who should be really happy are the referee appointment committee because everything was very strange,” he said.
Real Madrid’s defeat followed a subdued start to Mourinho’s return to LaLiga, while Barcelona’s form has been increasingly difficult to match. Celta Vigo also impressed by putting five goals past Racing Santander, although Valencia remain without a win since dismissing Carlos Corberan.
Harry Kane reaches another landmark
Kane scored twice in Bayern Munich’s 7-0 demolition of Union Berlin, taking his Bundesliga total to 100 goals in just 98 appearances. No player has reached the milestone in fewer matches.
Michael Olise was the outstanding performer, however, scoring a hat-trick and creating Kane’s second goal. Bayern’s result was among the weekend’s biggest wins, although Borussia Dortmund remain the only Bundesliga team yet to drop a point.
Dortmund beat Stuttgart 1-0 through Maxi Beier’s goal, with substitute Jobe Bellingham providing the assist. Coach Niko Kovac was visibly emotional after being told in a post-match interview of the death of his former Bayern assistant Peter Hermann, who was 74.
Dortmund have now won all six of their matches in every competition and have made a particularly strong defensive start. Their next challenge will be maintaining that solidity against the pressure of Bayern’s attacking power.
Amorim changes course at Milan
Ruben Amorim responded to defeat in Europe by altering his approach at AC Milan, switching to a back four during the build-up in a 3-0 victory over Lecce. The change allowed Samuel Chukwueze to attack with greater freedom, while Mario Gila moved to right-back.
Amorim acknowledged the need to be more flexible after his difficulties at Manchester United. “I cannot make the same mistakes,” he said.
He added: “Sometimes we do not have the perfect characteristics to play in that way and if we do not have it then we have to adapt.”
The result kept Milan among four unbeaten teams in Serie A. Inter also maintained their unbeaten record after recovering from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Roma, with Lautaro Martinez scoring twice.
Napoli’s Billy Gilmour scored his first goal in almost a year in a draw at Fiorentina, while Harry Winks helped Cagliari make it four wins from five by starting every match since the beginning of the season.
Rosenior celebrates against former club
Paris FC manager Liam Rosenior marked a 2-1 win over former club Strasbourg with a pointed celebration in front of the visiting supporters. He said a section of the crowd had insulted his family.
“A small part of the supporters, and I emphasise, a small part of them, because Strasbourg is a fantastic club, were disrespectful,” Rosenior said. “They insulted my family. So for me, celebrating like that, obviously it was a message.”
Paris FC remain unbeaten and have the best defensive record in Ligue 1 in terms of goals conceded and expected goals conceded. Monaco lead the division, while Paris Saint-Germain moved closer to form by beating Marseille 2-1 at the Velodrome.
It was Marseille’s fourth defeat in five matches. PSG missed seven big chances but secured a third successive victory through Marquinhos.
Mohamed Salah provided another eye-catching display in Turkey, scoring a hat-trick and supplying an assist as Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 4-0. He twice raced through from his own half and now has seven league goals in six matches.
Amedspor lead the Super Lig after a 3-2 victory over Besiktas, while Porto remain perfect in Portugal after beating Benfica 3-1. The champions have won all seven of their matches and hold a five-point advantage at the top of the table.
