Everton have been offered the chance to sign former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial as they search for an emergency attacking option following the collapse of their late transfer plans.
Representatives for the 30-year-old are understood to have approached the club about a possible move to Goodison Park, according to talkSPORT. No agreement has been reached and discussions remain at an exploratory stage.
Martial is currently a free agent after leaving Mexican side Monterrey, allowing Everton to sign and register him despite the summer transfer window having closed.
Anthony Martial offered to Everton as free agent
The Frenchman is reportedly keen to return to English football, where he spent nine seasons with Manchester United after joining from Monaco in 2015.
Martial scored 63 goals in 209 Premier League appearances for United, although his recent career has been disrupted by injuries and a lack of consistency. He managed only one goal in 20 appearances during his spell with Monterrey.
Everton could nevertheless regard his experience of English football as valuable as manager David Moyes attempts to strengthen a severely depleted attack.
The club sanctioned Beto’s move to Fiorentina before trying to bring in Monaco striker Folarin Balogun. That deal collapsed at the final stage, while a late loan approach for Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee was also rejected.
Thierno Barry is therefore Everton’s only recognised senior centre-forward, leaving the club to consider free agents as it seeks a short-term solution.
Martial’s representatives have also been making his availability known as he weighs up his next move, but there is currently no indication that Everton have decided to proceed with a deal.
