Explosions at a weapons depot in northern Syria have injured at least four people, with emergency services warning civilians to stay away from the site near al-Eis, south of Aleppo.
The blasts occurred early on Monday at a Syrian army facility, according to state-run SANA news agency. The cause of the explosions was not immediately known.
Faisal Mohammad Ali, head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, said rescuers had evacuated four injured people from the site. He added that “continuing explosions” were preventing emergency teams from reaching the area.
Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib urged residents to remain in their homes for the time being, saying that “hospitals, ambulance and emergency teams are on full alert”.
Roads leading to the site have been closed by Aleppo’s Internal Security Command “to ensure the safety of civilians”.
