Five females, including a 12-year-old girl, have been arrested after an alleged shopping centre brawl involving a knife at Northland Shopping Centre in Preston, Melbourne.
Police were called to the food court at about 6.20pm on Friday after a fight broke out between a group of girls and an 18-year-old woman.
The incident involved girls aged 12, 14, 16 and 17, along with the woman. Officers patrolling the centre intervened as the alleged fighting unfolded.
The 14-year-old suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. The 12-year-old was treated by paramedics and released while police continue their inquiries.
The 18-year-old, from Coburg North, and the 16-year-old and 17-year-old, from the Hume area, were interviewed by police. All three are expected to be charged on summons.
John McLaughlan, from Victoria Police’s media unit, said Operation Pulse officers had seized a knife allegedly produced during the incident.
“Operation Pulse officers seized a knife which was allegedly produced during the incident,” he said in a statement.
Detectives from the Banyule Crime Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fight.
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward and provide any footage of the incident.
