Michael Carrick expects to remain Manchester United manager despite the club sitting in the Premier League relegation zone after a dramatic 4-4 draw with Aston Villa.
United scored twice in stoppage time to salvage a point at home, but the result extended their winless league run to eight matches. They are third from bottom, one point from safety.
Their 18th-place position is United’s lowest after 10 top-flight games since the 1986/87 season, when they were 20th.
The result has raised further questions over Carrick’s position ahead of the two-week November international break. Asked about his future, however, the manager insisted he would not walk away.
“It’s not going to happen, no,” Carrick said when asked whether he expected to leave.
During a tense exchange, he was also asked whether he expected conversations about his position. Carrick replied: “We understand the situation; we haven’t won enough games. But I expect to move forward and keep working on things we’ve been working on, showing a lot of the good in the game today, tighten up on a few mistakes and win football matches.”
