Patrick Dorgu questioned whether his Manchester United team-mates are doing enough to rescue the club’s season after their dramatic 4-4 draw with Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
The Denmark international made a decisive impact after coming off the bench, scoring and creating another goal as United recovered from 4-2 down in stoppage time. But Dorgu said the result was not enough, with Michael Carrick’s side remaining in the Premier League relegation zone.
Patrick Dorgu calls for Manchester United players to take responsibility
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Dorgu urged every player to examine their contribution and show greater commitment to the manager and the club.
“I don’t feel happy, we are in a bad situation. We need to fight together to get out of it. Draw better than a loss but we had the better opportunities,” he said.
“Everyone needs to look at themselves and ask if they are doing enough. We need to fight for the manager, for the club and get out of this together.”
Dorgu added: “Of course it hurts [to be in relegation zone], there’s a lot of games and we need everyone to come back sharp from international break and start getting wins.”
The 22-year-old had replaced Diogo Dalot in the 66th minute and helped transform the match. His cross allowed Joshua Zirkzee to pull a goal back in the 91st minute before Dorgu headed in from Bruno Fernandes’ corner five minutes later.
United had fallen two goals behind twice during the contest, but their late fightback only secured a point. They go into the November international break 18th in the table with eight points from 10 matches.
The result leaves Carrick and his staff with two weeks to regroup before United return to action against rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
