Nvidia’s board has launched an independent investigation into chief executive Jensen Huang’s relationship with Alice Huang, a data centre executive described in reports as a suspected Chinese spy, after Huang admitted being unfaithful to his wife.
The inquiry follows reports concerning one of the most influential figures in artificial intelligence and technology and has drawn attention in both the industry and Washington.
In a statement, Nvidia said the investigation had been prompted by recent reporting that its founder and chief executive had been the target of a foreign intelligence effort. The review will be overseen by a committee of independent directors with assistance from outside legal counsel.
“The board prioritises US and national economic security, which is paramount to the interests of NVIDIA and its shareholders,” the company said.
Nvidia said it had no reason to believe that national security or company secrets had been compromised. It added that the investigation would examine all available information and that Huang fully supported the review and had agreed to co-operate.
The board also said it retained full confidence in Huang and his leadership team.
In an email to staff, Huang acknowledged the affair, writing: “I was unfaithful to my wife. My actions hurt her and our children. There is no excuse for what I did.”
Alice Huang, also identified as Huang Le, is an executive at data centre company Megaspeed. Huang was pictured with her at a party in Taipei in June 2024.
