Nine people have died in a mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania, after an incident late on Friday. Investigators said all the deaths occurred before officers arrived at the scene.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro described the attack as a “tragic mass shooting” and said he had offered the state administration’s full support to Erie Mayor Daria Devlin.
“I’ve spoken with Mayor Devlin and offered my Administration’s full support following the tragic mass shooting in Erie last night – killing nine of our fellow Pennsylvanians,” Mr Shapiro wrote in a post on Saturday morning.
Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah said the scene was among the most difficult he had encountered during his tenure.
“The loss of life is devastating, and the circumstances we are working through are deeply disturbing,” he said.
Authorities were continuing to establish a motive, while the city said a news conference had been scheduled for Saturday.
