Olivier Martinez has obtained a restraining order against Halle Berry amid concerns over their 12-year-old son, Maceo, according to Martinez’s lawyer, who said the actor is worried about alleged impulse-control and anger-management issues.
Patrick Baghdaserians said the application was focused on Maceo’s welfare rather than being a vindictive action by a former partner. He said the court’s decision to grant the order showed the allegations were being taken seriously.
Baghdaserians said Martinez did not know whether Berry had been drinking when she allegedly put Maceo in a headlock last weekend. However, he claimed she had a troubling history involving alcohol.
He said Martinez’s aims were to keep Maceo safe and to secure help for what he described as major “impulse control” issues. Martinez is also seeking primary physical and legal custody of their son.
Berry’s lawyer, Marina Beck, rejected the allegations as “meritless”. Her legal team said Martinez’s alleged violent history was the real concern, claiming he had “repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with necessary therapeutic and educational interventions to the detriment of his and Halle Berry’s minor son”.
Baghdaserians acknowledged there had been a dispute over counselling, but said it was separate from what he described as Berry’s “extreme” alleged conduct.
The proceedings also include an allegation concerning race and the former couple’s dispute over child support. Martinez claims Berry once asked Maceo how he felt about “a white bitch robbing money from a black woman”, when the boy was nine.
Baghdaserians was asked about the allegation during an interview, alongside questions about the custody dispute and the competing claims made by Berry and Martinez.
