Kim Kardashian’s Skims accessories advent calendar has been criticised online after a TikTok unboxing of the 12-day product attracted more than 34 million views.
The calendar, which retails for $148, was opened in full by a creator whose frustration appeared to grow as each compartment was revealed. The contents included bra straps, scrunchies, a teddy bear keychain, hair clips, a comb and a foam squishy.
Skims describes the product as a festive countdown containing “twelve days of fun surprises”, including hair accessories, keychains and other everyday items.
However, many commenters questioned whether the contents justified the price. One described the calendar as a “box full of pranks”, while another wrote: “So basically everything that falls between my car seats.” Both comments received more than one million likes.
Another TikTok user said: “$150 is WILD for maaaaybe $20 worth of stuff,” while someone else compared the accessories to “TEMU” junk.
One further commenter wrote: “this is all the stuff i just threw out when decluttering my nightstand.”
The reaction has focused largely on the value of the items rather than the concept of the advent calendar itself, despite the product description setting out that it contains a selection of accessories and small surprises.
Some viewers praised the creator for buying and opening the calendar, suggesting the video may have helped others avoid spending the money. “They played in your face girl but you just saved so many people money,” one person commented.
