New York Knicks point guard Tyler Kolek has described Taylor Swift as a “little performative” fan of the team during an NBA 2K TikTok livestream.
Kolek was appearing alongside team-mate Deuce McBride when they were asked to name the “fakest celebrity Knicks fan”. He suggested Swift, adding: “I guess she’s got a lot going on… can’t come all the time… but it’s a little performative.”
McBride agreed with his team-mate and warned that “Swifties” might not react well to the answer. Kolek acknowledged that he was likely to face criticism over the remark.
The discussion centred on celebrities who attend Knicks games and may be more interested in being seen courtside than supporting the team. Kolek said some celebrity appearances could be “performative” rather than evidence of genuine fandom.
McBride also named Ben Stiller and Tracy Morgan among the Knicks’ core group of celebrity supporters.
A representative for Swift was contacted for comment but had not responded.
