Liverpool have reportedly agreed personal terms with Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara after the Senegal international’s proposed move to Chelsea collapsed on transfer deadline day.
The 22-year-old had been expected to join Chelsea, but Monaco withdrew from the deal after late developments involving Folarin Balogun’s proposed transfer to Everton. Camara subsequently remained with the Ligue 1 club.
Indy Kaila reports that Camara has now agreed to a five-year contract with Liverpool, on terms understood to match those previously negotiated with Chelsea. The claim has not been officially confirmed by either Liverpool or Monaco.
The same report suggests the transfer fee should not prevent a deal, with Liverpool said to be working towards bringing the midfielder to Anfield in January. Further negotiations are expected to focus on finalising the agreement with Monaco.
Liverpool step up interest in Lamine Camara
Liverpool’s interest in Camara predates the collapse of his move to Chelsea. The club were linked with the midfielder during the summer, while reports also suggested they had encouraged him and Monaco to wait before committing to a transfer.
Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro has since said the club were pleased to keep Camara but acknowledged that the player had wanted to leave. Scuro also indicated that the midfielder could receive another major opportunity in the near future, potentially better than the offer available from Chelsea.
