Liverpool could revisit their move for Yankuba Minteh in the January transfer window after Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler suggested the winger may be able to fulfil his ambition of joining a major club.
The Reds made two offers for the 22-year-old during the summer, with Brighton reportedly rejecting bids of £50 million and £60 million. Liverpool ultimately turned to other options, but Hürzeler’s latest comments indicate the door may not be closed permanently.
Liverpool handed fresh Yankuba Minteh transfer encouragement
Minteh is currently recovering from a leg injury that required surgery and is expected to return to action in October. His absence did not prevent Liverpool from pursuing him during the summer, with the club seeking additional options on the right side of their attack.
Speaking about the failed transfer, Hürzeler said: “If the whole team is successful, Yankuba will get a lot of attention again, and he can then maybe fulfil his dream in the next transfer window.”
Brighton’s manager believes Minteh’s prospects will improve if the club makes a strong start to the campaign. A successful spell for the Seagulls could increase interest in the Gambian international and strengthen his chances of securing a move in January.
Liverpool’s pursuit was closely linked to the departure of Mohamed Salah, with the club looking to refresh their wide attacking options. They completed deals for Bradley Barcola and Victor Muñoz during the summer but were unable to prise Minteh away from Brighton.
The Merseyside club have begun the new Premier League season with draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. Whether those results lead Liverpool to revive their interest in Minteh will depend on his recovery, Brighton’s position and the level of competition for his signature.
