A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after a fatal shooting at a home in Doveton, in Melbourne’s south-east.
The 27-year-old victim was found unresponsive at a property in Banksia Street at about 11.30am last Thursday. A woman inside the house performed first aid, but he could not be saved.
Police treated the death as suspicious and launched an investigation, with Homicide Squad detectives attending the scene.
A man from Dandenong was arrested on Tuesday morning over unrelated matters. After being interviewed by detectives, he was charged with murder over the 27-year-old’s death.
Police believe the two men were known to each other.
A nearby resident told the Herald Sun that the property had been raided by police several months ago. “There is always different cars parked in front of that house and so many people come and go,” he said.
“This used to be such a nice area but there are so many new faces, it has all changed.”
Another resident said she was considering leaving the area after a series of incidents. She said her car had been stolen after she and her family moved there a few months ago.
“Everyone is nice but most people keep to themselves,” she said. “We are trying to move away from here because there has been a few incidents and this is so scary.”
Anyone with information about the death has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
