Juventus are considering a January move for Manchester United striker Benjamin Šeško as they look to add greater physical presence to their attack.
The 23-year-old Slovenian has been limited by injury during his second season at Old Trafford, but remains highly regarded across Europe. His possible availability has created an unwelcome dilemma for United, who are already short of dependable centre-forward options.
Juventus weigh Benjamin Šeško transfer
Calciomercato reports that Juventus are assessing Šeško after struggling to find regular goals from Randal Kolo Muani and Nick Woltemade. Folarin Balogun and Brian Brobbey are also understood to be among the forwards under consideration.
The Italian club could have around €100 million available for transfers between January and next summer following a planned capital increase. That would give Juventus the financial capacity to pursue a significant deal if they decide to make Šeško their preferred target.
United have previously shown little inclination to sell. The club continues to view Šeško as an important long-term player, despite reported interest from Juventus and Barcelona.
His immediate concern, however, is his fitness. United have confirmed that the striker suffered another setback with the shin problem that had troubled him before, with manager Michael Carrick saying he faces a “longer period of time” on the sidelines.
Šeško has not played since United’s Carabao Cup defeat by Brighton on 16 September.
United unlikely to welcome January sale
A transfer this winter would appear difficult for United to justify. Šeško’s value is unlikely to be at its highest while he is injured, while his absence has already left Carrick needing greater depth in attack.
Juventus’ interest reflects the striker’s size, mobility and potential, but United invested heavily in Šeško with the expectation that he could become their long-term No 9.
Unless Juventus make an exceptional offer, United are likely to favour keeping the forward and concentrating on his recovery rather than allowing a short-term injury setback to shape a major transfer decision.
