Marcus Rashford could consider another move away from Manchester United if he is unable to establish himself under Michael Carrick, with his difficult start to the season putting his future under renewed scrutiny.
The 28-year-old returned to Old Trafford after spending last season on loan at Barcelona, where he regained some of his best form. That improvement has not continued into the current campaign, however, with Rashford yet to score or provide an assist in eight appearances.
Rashford’s Manchester United future under scrutiny
Rashford remains part of Carrick’s plans, but a report has claimed he may seek an exit if regular first-team football remains difficult to secure. His place in the starting line-up is not guaranteed when he returns from his latest injury setback.
Carrick has previously indicated that Rashford has been managing a physical issue. Speaking to Manchester United’s official media, the manager said the forward had been “carrying a little bit of something” and that his workload needed to be carefully controlled.
Rashford has made six Premier League appearances this season without registering a goal or assist. Across all competitions, his total stands at eight appearances without a direct attacking contribution.
That lack of production is increasing the pressure on the forward as he attempts to regain his place in the team. United’s attacking options are competitive, while Carrick must also demand a more consistent output from those selected.
There is already reported interest from elsewhere in the Premier League. Everton have discussed a possible move for Rashford in January, with former chief executive Keith Wyness claiming the prospect is being considered “quite strongly”.
Another move could offer Rashford a fresh start
Rashford has previously benefited from a change of surroundings. His loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona provided opportunities to reset, with his time in Spain bringing a notable improvement in his attacking performances.
Everton could offer him the prospect of regular Premier League football without requiring another move abroad. A transfer could also give Rashford an opportunity to rebuild his form and reputation if he remains on the fringes at Manchester United.
The coming weeks may therefore prove significant. If Rashford returns from injury but cannot secure a regular role, another departure could become a realistic option for both the player and the club.
