A nor’easter storm has brought powerful winds and heavy rain to the US East Coast, leaving parts of the Jersey Shore submerged as officials warn conditions are expected to worsen before the storm peaks on Saturday night.
Roads in Surf City were completely underwater, with video showing floodwater rising rapidly. An onlooker described the situation as “terrible” and said they were worried about homes being flooded.

Similar scenes were recorded in Ocean City, where an avenue was reported to be entirely underwater. Live camera footage from Sea Isle City showed blocks covered by water.
Wind gusts of more than 50mph have been recorded from Cape Cod to Delaware, according to The Weather Channel. Gusts in the Boston area could reach 60mph on Saturday night, CNN reported.
The storm is coinciding with a full-moon spring tide, increasing the risk of coastal flooding.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a travel advisory ahead of the nor’easter, while 12 counties across New York and New Jersey were placed under a state of emergency.
Nearly 17,000 people on Long Island and in the Far Rockaways were without power, according to PSEG.
The storm has also led to the cancellation of two concerts involving Ed Sheeran and Macklemore, including shows from which Macklemore had originally been removed.
Authorities have warned that the most severe conditions are still to come as the nor’easter moves towards its expected peak.
