Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said he is willing to listen to calls for an official apology for Britain’s role in the historic transatlantic slave trade, while ruling out financial reparations.
His position comes ahead of King Charles hosting this week’s Commonwealth summit in St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, during the monarch’s tour of the Caribbean.
The question of whether Britain should pay reparations is being put to the public in the Morning Mail poll, with the results due to be published in tomorrow’s newsletter.
