R&B singer Freddie Jackson has died at the age of 70, his family has announced.
The family said Jackson “went home to rest” on Monday night. No cause of death was disclosed.
Jackson was among the most prominent voices in 1980s R&B, known for romantic songs including “You Are My Lady”, “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)”, “Have You Ever Loved Somebody” and “Jam Tonight”.
In a statement, his family described him as more than a legendary singer, calling him a “kind, generous soul” who loved his fans, family, friends and music.
“For decades he gave us the songs that became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most treasured memories,” they said. “That gift will live on forever.”
Details of funeral arrangements and ways to honour Jackson’s legacy will be announced in the coming days, the family said.
