Tottenham are reportedly weighing a January move for Benfica striker Vangelis Pavlidis as manager Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attack.
The Greek international has emerged as a priority target following a disappointing start to the campaign, with Spurs seeking greater consistency in front of goal.
Tottenham target Vangelis Pavlidis after prolific Benfica form
Pavlidis, 27, has established himself as one of Benfica’s most productive forwards. He scored 30 goals and supplied six assists last season, and has continued that form this term.
The striker has registered 15 goals and four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions this season. His movement and finishing have reportedly attracted interest from several clubs.
Tottenham believe his experience and record in the final third could provide De Zerbi with a dependable focal point. Pavlidis is also understood to be keen on playing in the Premier League, which could strengthen Spurs’ position in the race for his signature.
Aston Villa have previously been linked with the forward, while other clubs are also monitoring his situation.
Benfica set €100m price for Pavlidis
Any deal would present a significant financial challenge for Tottenham. Pavlidis is under contract with Benfica until 2029 and has a €100 million release clause in his agreement.
Benfica are determined to retain their leading goalscorer and are reportedly considering improved terms in an effort to discourage a move in January. The Portuguese club would prefer to keep him until the end of the season, allowing time to find a replacement.
Tottenham must now decide whether to pursue an ambitious deal for Pavlidis or look at more affordable options as they attempt to improve their attacking department.
