Two men have been injured in a shooting in north-west Atlanta, with a 31-year-old victim in critical condition after being shot in the head, police said.
Officers were called to Howell Mill Road shortly after midnight on Thursday, 17 September, following reports of people being shot. A 25-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was reported to be in stable condition.
Both men were taken to hospital. Atlanta Police Department homicide detectives attended because of the seriousness of the injuries, although neither victim had died.
Investigators believe the shooting may have involved a single gunman, but Lieutenant Christapher Butler said officers were still piecing together the evidence. No suspect has been identified and no arrests have been announced.
Police are also examining two vehicles believed to be linked to the incident. One was found abandoned and on fire on Detroit Avenue, while another was discovered on Peters Street SW with multiple bullet holes.
Surveillance footage obtained by local media appeared to show vehicles travelling along Howell Mill Road before people ran for cover as gunfire broke out. Officers recovered shell casings and other evidence from the scene.
The shooting was reported near The Daiquiri Factory, but the restaurant has denied that the incident happened inside or directly in front of its premises. Management said it had been told the gunfire took place in the vicinity of 1583 Howell Mill Road, rather than at the restaurant’s address at 1587 Howell Mill Road.
In a statement, the business said there had been no argument or altercation inside the establishment connected to the shooting and that it was co-operating with law enforcement.
Police are investigating whether surveillance footage captured the shooting itself and have appealed for information as the enquiry continues.
