Two people have died and 35 others have been injured in a Georgia block party shooting in the city of Vienna, authorities said.
Gunfire erupted in the early hours of Sunday morning on Pine Street, where deputies from the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office found several people wounded. The shots were heard at about 1.25am local time as deputies patrolled the area.
The injured were taken to several hospitals, according to investigators. The two people who died were found several blocks from the Pine Street location where the shooting is believed to have started.
Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls said both victims were men, aged 20 and 23. They were pronounced dead at the scene, while autopsies are due to be carried out by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office.
The identities of those killed and injured have not been released. Authorities have also provided no information about a possible suspect or a motive.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation joined the inquiry at the request of the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office. It described the investigation as “active and ongoing”.
