The San Francisco Bay Area is set for two unusually hot days, with temperatures expected to reach 10 to 15 degrees above average before cooler weather and rain move in next week.
Forecasters expect sunny conditions on Friday October 16 and Saturday, with inland areas reaching the upper 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit – around 31 to 34C. Parts of the Santa Cruz Mountains and southern Santa Clara Valley could rise into the mid-to-upper 90s Fahrenheit.
San Jose is forecast to reach about 88F (31C), while Morgan Hill could climb to 94F (34C), according to the National Weather Service office serving the region.
The heat will be accompanied by very dry conditions and gusty winds in higher elevations. A Red Flag Warning covering the North Bay interior mountains remains in force until late Friday morning because of the increased fire risk.
Bay Area heat followed by cooler weather and rain
Temperatures should begin falling on Sunday as a change in weather pattern brings back the marine layer. Coastal areas are expected to drop into the 50s and 60s Fahrenheit, while inland locations return to the 70s and low 80s.
The National Weather Service said periods of breezy winds and light, accumulating rain could develop from early to mid-next week as a low-pressure system moves south along the California coast.
